This is the cover of the Advance Fashion News pattern booklet from September 1938. The cover illustration features Advance #2104, which is described and further illustrated below.

"This shirtwaist frock is different because of its interrupted yoke and tucking detail. It buttons from a squared or high neckline. Stitched pleats fall from its trim belted waist. Sizes 12 to 20 years; 30 to 44 bust. Size 16 requires 3.25 yds of 36-in fabric."

Children of 1908: Garments for young children

Butterick #4110 is a dress suitable for a young boy or girl. It features pintucks on the shoulders and at center front, giving overall fullness to the dress that is echoed in the full sleeves. Insertion lace is used in the high collar and the flounces at the bottom of the dress.

This pattern was available in four sizes, for 1/2, 1, 3 and 5 years.

Butterick #2779 is similarly suitable for a young boy or girl, but it was available in six sizes, from 1/2 to 5 years old. This dress features a yoke with insertion lace, and the fullness of the dress stems from the groups of pintucks that cascade from the yoke.

Children of 1908: An older girl

Butterick #4065 as shown in a Delineator pattern booklet from 1908.

A very pretty girl's dress with full sleeves gathered at the elbow and a gathered waistline. The high collar and yoke are prettily formed with insertion lace. The pattern was available in 5 sizes, from 4 to 12 years old.

Children of 1908: Children's sportswear

Butterick #3809 as illustrated in a Delineator pattern booklet in 1908. What is that on the boy's head? It looks like some kind of protective mask for sports. Unfortunately there is no description of the outfit. The pattern was available in four sizes, from size 2 to 8.
